Dr. Kimberly Kalfas

Trained Professional

Dr. Kimberly Kalfas is a 2005 Graduate of the Bastyr University where she received her Doctorate Degree in Naturopathic Medicine (ND). She holds a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Microbiology from The Ohio State University where she graduated from in 1998 . After undergraduate training in pre-medicine, she worked at The Ohio State University Medical Center working directly with patients daily in a hospital setting. This work led her desire to find a program in natural and holistic medicine. Finding Bastyr was a blessing, and she spent 5 years studying the rigorous curriculum and wonderful alternative and holistic medicine modalities that only an accredited naturopathic college could offer. After graduating from Bastyr, Dr. Kalfas moved home to be closer to family and opened a practice in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Kim, as her patients often call her, worked with various practitioners including Nick Cirranni LMT at Sound Touch Massage Therapy and at Equivita with Adam Milligan PT. In addition to her practice in Ohio, Dr. Kalfas spent 3 years being the President of the Ohio Association of Naturopathic Physicians. Dedicated to educating the public in Ohio and interested in the long term growth of Naturopathic Medicine in her home state, she was a representative for Ohio at American Association of Naturopathic Medicine House of Delegates, State Alliance and various leadership roles at the legislative and educational level. Dr. Kalfas moved back to Washington in order to pursue a deeper working knowledge and true scope of practicing in a licensed state for ND's. In her transition to Bellevue Washington she spent a few months on teh Olympic Peninsula training under an elder of 28 years and then moved back to the mainland to practicie with her current colleagues Dr. Rian Herscher and Dr. Aurora Sedmak. She has taking specialized education since her return in IV nutrient therapies and sought additional training in Craniosacral Therapy at Bastyr University under Nancy Witt and Einat Arian, ND. She is currently working on her Reiki training with an long time expert in the field.

Of Note

Personal experience with a car accident at the age of 16 with her father led her to find Craniosacral Therapy and other hands on modalities due to personal recongnition of the need for true healing.  Dr. Kalfas spent 1 year post-undergraduate training working on the Orthopedic Trauma Unit at OSUMC as a PCA. She learned a lot about direct patient care and worked alongside nurses and doctors lending a hand in the most interesting situations.

Dr. Kalfas spent 1 year post-graduate training interning with Dr. Tamara Strickland and Dr. Jennifer Ball in Ohio in private practice. In addition, she spent 3 months with an elder with 28 years of experience and graduate of Bastyr Univeristy, learning various hormone balancing techniques, enjoying eclectic medicine stories and lessons, and learning about the origins of the hCG diet. She continued her work and training with Dr. Rian Herscher of Origin Holistic and Dr. Aurora Sedmak of Transformational Health in Bellevue Washington.

With an interest in foreign cultures and ancient medicine and wisdom, she traveled to India with Dr. Vivek Shanbhag, who taught her Ayurvedic Medicine and on the trip attended the Global Holistic Health Summit in 2003. It was at this trip where she heard Deepak Chopra and the late Horst Rechelbacher (Founder of Aveda) speak in person to a crowd of various healers of every kind and from over 70 countries. This was the beginning of her love affair with hydrotherapy, physical medicine, topical herbal treatments and movement based therapy. Dr. Kalfas hopes to own a medi-spa someday not unlike the Soukya spa she visited in India.

Dr. Kim is also a certified NIA instructor, training under Winalee Zeeb, owner of HeartDance Studio and Black Belt in NIA.

Nia is the art of movement the body's way. Nia is a cardio-dance workout, a movement practice, and lifestyle based on the intelligent design of the body. It is the belief in NIA that every person can discover, explore, unleash, and enhance their individual potential to live a healthy and meaningful life by engaging their senses and listening to their bodies. NIA is a great mixture of Martial Arts, Dance Arts and Healing Arts. This blend mirrors all of the knowledge that Dr. Kalfas has in dance (through years of ballet, tap, and jazz), medical training,  and spritual study. She really enjoyed classes at Bastyr University including movement classes with Dr. Brad Lichtenstein, ND,  who taught body awareness and breathing techniques and Benjamin Apichai, MD (China), MS, LAc who taught Tai Qi.  She currently works with Erica Strauss, purna yoga instructor in the Kenmore home studio.

Goals and Dreams:

To build a facility that is a combination of movement space, art space, play space and healing space.

This space would be for private and public instruction, classes, retreats, seminars, events, and more.

My goal is to build this space by 2026.

Visually: A refurbished barn space with natural light, large movement space with lots of physical therapy tools and props,  art stations, reflexology paths, treatment rooms, loft, kitchen, organic garden, labryinth...

Facilitate my goal and help make my goal a reality!
